Me and my boyfriend went fishing at the Noxubee National Wildlife Refuge in Starkville! I was using my little Ugly Stick rod and reel combo with a small PowerBait pre-rigged Shad to try to catch some crappie in a spillway by Bluff Lake.
I was reeling in and knew I caught something but realized most definitely wasn’t a crappie. I’ve caught something decent ones in the spillway but nothing as quick and heavy as what I had caught. I had to eventually give the rod to my boyfriend because my arms got so tired, it took around 3 minutes to finally get the spoonbill unhooked.
I thought I had to have gotten him good to be caught like that, but the PowerBait had just barely snagged the back of his dorsal fin! I had never caught a fish that large so it was a fun experience.. I did have to get a new reel after that though.
